WESTMORELAND COUNTY -- Pennsylvania State Police are trying to piece together the puzzling death of a motorcyclist in Westmoreland County.

According to police reports, William Mark Amos, 47, of Export, was riding on Route 819 in Salem Township when the deer crossed into his path on Friday morning.

The bike collided with the deer about 100 yards south of Ridge Road.

But police said that Amos had a gunshot wound to the head and that a gun was also recovered at the crash scene.

Police said Amos, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sorry for this guy and his family. This is going to be morbidly interesting to watch and find out what the heck happened..

More coming out on this story.. Poor guy.. Sounds like he probably hit the deer and was lying there in agony.

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/24280477/detail.html

"There was a fracture to the rear of his head, and the gun laying on the ground. We decided to collect other evidence and send him for autopsy," Cycak said.

Cycak said the leg injuries that were caused by the bike crash would have been painful but not fatal.

State police tried to learn where Amos was before the crash happened, and they examined his driving gloves for the presence of any gunshot residue. Blood work was also sent for analysis.

In the end, the coroner said Amos died of a gunshot wound that was apparently self-inflicted, although it isn't common for such a shot to happen in the rear of the head.

I get it. Punctured lung, broken leg, pinned under the bike, sat there for what seems like forever. he has his pistol, puts himself out of his misery.

Sad way to go, but I get it.

Either that or He was involved in a serious Rival Deer biker gang nad they extracted thier vengence for killing Monster Buck's little sister.

Either one seems possible to me.

OK I got it figured out. The guy hits the deer, his gun falls out of his pocket or where ever he had it. The deer grabs the gun and shoots the guy in the back of the head before dying its self! [CLAP]

I gave up deer hunting years ago, but I'm seriously considering getting back into it.
