Honda Rune-why am I amazed?

Want to talk about motorcycles that you own that aren't a C50 or a Volusia? Here's the spot for that.

It is definitely a unique looking bike. I got to ride one at a Honda Hoot when they were having those in Knoxville. The ride didn't stand out for me.

Joe: Tell me more. I don't expect the ride to be outstanding, however, what did you not like. I'm 6'1" and 225 pounds with decent arm length. Was it the ride itself (over bumps, etc) or just the positioning of the rider? With all due respect, I'd like to hear your opinion and I am looking for input. I'm just trying to figure out if I should be going through the trouble.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Ratboy,

It was several years ago, right after the introduction that I got to ride it so I don't recall many specifics. I think they key thing is that it didn't stand out in my memory!!! I rode the Aprilia sport bike and Honda Goldwing that same year and BOTH of those I remember vividly! The Aprilia was kick @$$ fun and the Goldwing was much more nimble than I would have ever expected. Those two stand out and the Rune doesn't so it must have been so-so or what I would have expected from it. See if you can find one to test ride; that's your best bet!! Good luck.

Joe: Thanks for the insight. I appreciate that. I think I'm going to leave the Rune off my list for now...I just caught up with this information:

Image

The maximum weight capacity is 276 pounds.
Never ride with a passenger.

I weigh about 230 (give or take) and a bike this big shouldn't have such a low weight capacity. I'm glad I have been doing my research. Yeah, it's a pretty motorcycle - but 276 pounds?

OK, I was stumbling around the web and found the Honda Rune. Yeah, they're older (2004 or so), but something keeps attracting me to one. The road tests are OK - nothing great. It's a limited production Honda, but something keeps me going back to look at them on line.

I guess prices were in the high $20,000 mark and now on eBay prices are about mid $15,000 (roughly). During the time this model came out, I was into a second career and starting out with my family. I didn't even know they came out - and no, I couldn't afford it new.

I'm just amazed at this machine. The lines and the boldness are captivating. The exhaust is sleek. What am I missing?

The Rune is listed in the Ten Ugliest Bikes in the world; the Honda Magna sitting at the #1 spot.

Too funny... what list were you looking at? I checked out Hubpages top 10 ugly bikes; there must be something wrong with me, I LIKE most of them!! :)

I like rat bikes and bikes converted or built for proper use, as transportation of people and things, not as an extension of my dick. As my Vol gets along in age, it will also see modifications that are useful for my needs as a traveler, not worrying about how ugly it looks. I truly believe though that some bikes are so ugly they look good, ie: the Rune.

The Rune is a definite head-turner, there's a blue one that I see around here fairly often. It's a one-upper only, and he's done "something" to the exhaust because it has a very distinct note to it. I vaguely remember seeing a past article somewhere that said they had a few problems with the forks binding. I can only imagine how it would run with that 1800, the Valkyrie was a 1500 and it would scream, but it was like my old Venture, a BEAR at low speed around town.
