While I appreciate what you said - the wiring diagram needs to be gone through. I believe there are a few on the site. Are you good with a multi-meter? Here we go...

Measure the battery voltage (between the battery posts). It should be about 12.5 volts (DC) or higher.
- - - If not, charge the battery.

Turn on the ignition key (you said, no power, etc) and measure between the battery posts. The battery should be 12.5 volts (DC) or higher.
- - - If not, battery failure.

Leaving the key on, measure from the positive post to chassis ground. Again, 12.5 volts (DC) or higher.
- - - If not, corroded/open ground wire. Replace, clean or repair as necessary.

Leaving the key on, measure the 12.5 volts (DC) or higher from the R (red) wires, two each on the starter relay. There is also a 30 amp fuse within the starter relay. I would double check that. The starter relay is under the seat next to the battery.
- - - No voltage would indicate the 30 main main fuse/starter relay has failed.

***********************************************************************

The basic idea is that 'ground' is all over the bike. You need to find the positive voltage potential at other places to ensure that the circuit is completed. You can't say that everything was checked and found to be OK. If it was, then you should have power.

Good Luck.

Sounds like a bad key switch if there is nothing when you turn the key on.

I don't remember on the Volusia if the key will turn both directions, one way only turns on the tail light I think.

I found this link in the library:

http://www.volusiaowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=495

It's a 7 page document on fixing your ignition switch.

Again, I stress that some serious troubleshooting should be accomplished before you attempt this.....maybe I need a Snickers....
